The Wildwoods, NJ – May 19, 2022 – The all-new Wildwoods Island Shuttle will launch service on Memorial Day Weekend! On Friday, May 27, the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA) along with the Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood mayors and officials from the Jitney Association, will hold a joint press conference in front of the ‘WILDWOODS’ sign, located on the Boardwalk at Rio Grande Avenue, to announce the service.

The press conference will take place at 11:45 a.m., immediately following the Wildwoods annual Unlocking of the Ocean ceremony scheduled at 11 a.m. on the beach at Andrews Avenue. Two brand-new Wildwoods Island Shuttles will be on display in front of the ‘WILDWOODS’ sign for viewing and photo opportunities.

The Wildwoods Island Shuttle will begin service in the Wildwoods on Thursday, May 26, starting with weekends-only service Memorial Day Weekend through Sunday, June 19. Service will transition to a daily route Monday, June 20 through Labor Day, Monday, September 5, with shuttles returning to weekend-only service Friday, September 9 through Saturday, October 22.

The Shuttles, provided by the Jitney Association transportation service company, will be adorned with the Wildwoods logo featured prominently on the vehicles, making it easy for visitors to identify them. With 13 available seats on each shuttle, and multiple stops running from 5 p.m. through midnight, the shuttles will provide ‘on-demand’ transportation services for visitors and residents alike. All shuttles will be ADA compliant with wheelchair lifts installed on each.

“The Wildwoods are excited to kick off the 2022 summer season with this new visitor amenity. The Wildwoods Island Shuttle will provide a convenient way for visitors to ride from their hotels, motels and vacation rentals to the Boardwalk and all three amusement piers without having to move their cars and find parking to experience what the Wildwoods have to offer,” said Mayors Don Cabrera, Wildwood Crest; Pete Byron, City of Wildwood; and Patrick Rosenello, North Wildwood in a joint statement.

The Shuttles will run the length of the island, beginning a route at Diamond Beach on the southern tip of the island, along Atlantic Avenue and making its way up to Ocean Avenue in Wildwood Crest. The shuttle will then take passengers up to Schellenger Avenue and the Boardwalk, then north on Atlantic Avenue before making a final stop at Morey’s Piers on 26th Street and the Boardwalk. An additional late-night route is planned for the North Wildwoods entertainment district, with shuttle service continuing down Atlantic Avenue to the North Wildwood Entertainment District at Third and Old New Jersey Avenues.

“The Wildwoods Island Shuttle offers visitors and residents in the Wildwoods an ideal opportunity to travel between the three municipalities with ease, and to experience travel throughout the resort destination in a new, convenient and affordable way,” said Manny Mathioudakis, president of the Jitney Association. “The Jitney Association has served South Jersey for over a century and is excited to partner with the Wildwoods for the Island Shuttle Service,” he continued.

A free app, Jitney Surfer, can be downloaded from Google Play and the Apple App store – it allows riders to view a map of shuttle routes and real-time locations of each shuttle. The cost to ride will be $3 one-way, and $4 on the late-night route. Service will be ‘Stop on Demand’ for the entire route.
